Oliver Johnson Welcome.
Photography for me is a passion, it is both an art form, a record of a specific moment in time, and one of the greatest forms of communication ever invented. A photograph not only can convey factual events but also evoke emotions, unify and bond people and make people view even the most mundane objects or scenes in a different way.

My Photographic Interests. Many photographers have favourite subject matter be that wildlife or portraits for example and although I do have my favourite subjects, namely cityscapes, photo journalism and wildlife, I prefer to experiment in all genres.

I have been interested in photography all my life but only started to take it seriously when I took a job that allowed me to travel all over the world. Up to this point I had only used 35mm cameras before but didn't want to carry around roles of film with me on my travels so decided to take the plunge and buy a digital camera.
Going Digital.
My first digital camera was a revelation and it felt like the doors had been opened for me into a new world. The camera I had bought was a Fuji Finepix 4900 Zoom but as much as I liked it I missed the instant response you get from an SLR camera, not to mention the interchangeable lenses, and so decided to upgrade to a Canon EOS-10D Digital SLR.
The power and flexibility of the 10D now means that I shoot exclusively in digital. After a few years of using the 10D I finally retired it and now use a Canon EOS-30D

There does seem to be the misconception amongst the photographic community that if you are a digital photographer you must be a digital manipulator. In other words you must alter, seemingly beyond recognition, your photographs in Photoshop and so therefore cannot be a 'real photographer' as a 'real photographer' would get it right in the camera. Although I cannot dispute that there are some digital photographers that do work like this, I personally do not. All of my photographs have minimal alterations made to them in fact virtually nothing more than is and has always been performed in the dark room with film since the dawn of photography.
