Korum Deluxe Accessory Chair

E-mail Print PDF

korum_chairIn December 2006 I started to suffer from a bad back which was so bad that I was off work for 4 months. Fortunately my back, although still painful at times, is a lot better and when I decided to start going fishing again I just assumed that I was going to use my old Fox Recliner chair.

I quickly discovered that the Fox Recliner really is not the chair you want to sit in if you have a bad back! Due to it's design I found that the vast majority of the time I was slumped in the chair, leaning forward and curving my back in all the wrong places.

This coupled with the fact that I was also always bending over to pick up bait, use my catapult, reach for the disgorger etc meant that by the time I got home after a days fishing I was crippled and it would take me a couple of days to recover.

So the hunt was on for a new chair.

I looked around at numerous other chairs but the vast majority seemed to be of a very similar design to the Fox Recliner but as soon as I saw the Korum Deluxe Accessory Chair I could instantly see that it was different from all the rest.

The Korum Deluxe Accessory Chair has an adjustable back so you can have it in a reclined position or upright and at any point in between which makes it great for everyone regardless of if they have a back problem or not. Like all good chairs it also has adjustable legs so that you always have a perfectly level seat regardless of how uneven the ground is and mud feet that will help to stop the chair from sinking into soft ground.

Secure

Unlike any other chair I've seen on the market the frame of the Deluxe Accessory Chair is very secure as not only is the chair rated to 20 stone but when you fold the legs down one part of the frame slides over the other and then locks into place making sure that it is impossible for the chair to collapse on itself and trapping any rods or, more importantly, fingers! Once set-up you feel as though you could jump up and down on it and it wouldn't budge.

Flexibility

Probably the biggest selling point of the Deluxe Accessory Chair, as the name suggests, is all the accessory's that you can get for it. The chair itself ships with a side tray which, when not in use, can be stored away in a large pouch on the back of the chair. This tray is great for holding your bait boxes as well as small bits of tackle like tubs of shot and the pouch is useful not just for storing the tray but for just about anything else you can think of from a warm jumper to your lunch, extra groundbait to a small tackle box. Most of the accessory's for the chair attach to it in the same way which is simply by sliding them onto the top of the legs by way of a 'slot' and are secured by a wheel nut that grips the leg. When I ordered my chair I also ordered a butt rod rest and a telescopic feeder arm which then allows me to have my rod 'attached' to the chair without the need of putting any rod rests in the ground. The butt rest can be left permanently attached to the chair and although the feeder arm could be left attached, due to it's length, it is a little awkward to then carry the chair or pack it away into your car so is best to remove it. As this only involves loosening the wheel nut it can be removed in seconds so it's not a problem to do this.

There are two versions of the telescopic feeder arm, one has a tripod attachment which just makes the how assembly more secure and the doesn't and is simply secured by tightening two wheel nuts. I bought the latter as I didn't feel the need for the tripod function and thought it was too clumsy anyway. Both feeder arms can be adjusted in length and in height. Being able to set the height of the rest is a very useful feature as when lake fishing you would want the rod tip as close to the water as possible but when fishing fast moving rivers you can position the rod almost vertically thus keeping the line off the water to prevent drag.

Comfort

The first thing you notice when you sit in the chair is just how comfortable it is. I've sat in this chair for an entire day and not felt the need to stand up to stretch the legs or back once. Having everything to hand, from your bait to your rod not only helps to keep you comfortable but also means that you can be more efficient and tidy. The first time I used the chair I was interested to see how my back would survive and whereas when using my old chair I always felt stiff and ached by the time I got home, after an 8hrs sat in the Korum chair I felt absolutely fine with no hint of any pain or discomfort at all.

Summary

If you are looking for a new chair I really can't recommend this chair enough, very comfortable, very secure, very flexible and with so many accessories from rod rests to clips that attach your umbrella to the chair and wheels that turn it into a very good trolley and considering all it offers it's not even that heavy. I can't wait to be able to get out there and use it again!
