1st_photo.jpg In April 2004 I had my first photo published in the Hotshots section of Digital Camera Magazine which was this photo of Brighton's Palace Pier that I took one weekend in March. This was one the most rewarding shots I've taken as I could see exactly the shot I wanted to create before I even took my camera out of the bag.

swan_2ndphoto_large.jpg In May 2004, for the second month in a row, Digital Camera Magazine published another one of my photographs in the Hotshots section of the magazine, this time of a Swan resting. This shot was taken whilst on a 'photo meet' organised through www.phoenix2go.co.uk at the British Wildlife Center in Kent.

Digital Camera Magazine

In May 2004 Digital Camera Magazine contacted me to ask if I wanted to have a 'reader's profile' published in the July edition of the magazine. The readers profile is a half page spread where you get to talk a little bit about yourself, what equipment you use, what inspires you, what your favourite subjects are etc and they also publish two or three of your photos to illustrate the article as well.

Alamy

In June 2004 I was accepted, at my first attempt, as a contributor to Alamy which is one of the UK's largest professional photo libraries. Alamy supply photographs to newspapers, magazines and to advertising agencies, to name a few, both on a licensed (rights managed) and royalty free basis.

New Lenses

New Lenses

In February 2005 I made a major upgrade to the lenses that I used. Prior to this I used to use: Canon 70-300 IS f/4-5.6 USM Sigma 50-500 f/4-6.3 EX APO Tamron 90mm f/2.8

Canon 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 USM

The Canon 70-300 IS is a nice lens and, for the money, an excellent choice but it does lack a bit in sharpness even with the IS turned off. I had only had the Sigma 50-500 for a few months and although the flexibility of this lens is great I found it too slow to auto focus in a number of situations.

The Lake District

In September 2005 my wife and I traveled up to the Lake District for a holiday where we stayed in the small village of Troutbeck for two weeks which is just outside of Windermere. Troutbeck itself is a very small picturesque village consisting largely of one road, a post office and two pubs and is surrounded by mountains and beautiful countryside. The entire Lake District region has, in my opinion, some of the most stunning scenery anywhere in the UK and during our time there I took nearly 1000 photographs in an attempt to capture some of it's beauty.

Photos from my trip are now in my gallery.

Wildlife Heritage Foundation

In February 2006 I attended a photographic course at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Smarden, Kent. The WHF house a small number of selected endangered big cats with the view of breeding, and where possible, re-introduction to their home continents. Photographs from my visit can now be viewed in my gallery.
